Three Quick Complexion Tips

I have always been that girl that has struggled with acne.

I feel like I have tried every home-remedy and urban legend that involves curing breakouts (including but not limited to, the ‘toothpaste trick’). I’ve watched every infomercial in vain, praying that this time I had found a cure.

What Did I Learn?

What did I learn from all of these experiences?  For one, I learned never to trust a product that isn’t carried in stores or one that is sold by a cheesy, D-list celebrity.

Okay, I did learn more than that. I learned that everyone’s skin is different.

1. Hot vs. Cold

No, I’m not talking about mood swings (though they do tend to wreak havoc on the skin). I’m talking about the temperature of water.

Always use warm water on your face and body before applying cleanser. The warm water ‘opens’ your pores, allowing the cleanser to actually reach in and do it’s job!

After you have ‘warmed up’ your skin and after cleansing, splash your skin with cool water. The colder temperature ‘closes’ the pores, helping keep out bacteria

2. Pillow Talk

Try to only use ‘one side’ of the pillow for no more than a few days. Flipping the pillow over prevents oils that have seeped into the material from making their way back onto your face. I normally trade out pillow cases every few days and this does wonders for clearing up the sides of my face.

3. No Touchy

It’s a common known fact but rarely does anyone follow it – Don’t touch your face! Even I find myself doing it all the time. When I’m bored, deep in thought, etc. my dirty little fingers make their way up to my chin or temple and then a day later I have a new tenant. Try to compulsively wash your hands and pay attention to where they roam.
